Assurance and Accountability

SFC has a framework for assurance and accountability that enables us to have confidence that we are delivering against our statutory duties and Scottish Government’s expectations as set out in the Framework Document and Letters of Guidance from Ministers. It also enables us to understand in more detail what colleges and universities deliver for the almost £2 billion funding that we distribute to them.

The assurance and accountability framework sets out our expectations of colleges and universities, and details the ways in which we gain assurance that our expectations are being met. The framework covers the following areas:

• Institutional sustainability.
• Good governance of colleges and universities.
• Delivery of outcomes for the funding that we provide to colleges and universities – these outcomes cover the breadth of SFC’s activities.
• Learning and quality.
