The reports come from a variety of expert sources including the College Development Network (CDN) and Evaluation Support Scotland (ESS). Two of the reports are data-led; two further papers reflect the thoughts and experiences of those involved in the pilot projects.
The contribution from Professor Ewart Keep is an academic paper designed to stimulate reflection on the barriers to skills alignment. Professor Keep is a member of the Scottish Funding Council’s board and is emeritus professor in Education, Training and Skills at the Department of Education at the University of Oxford.
This SFC report uses data to define the routes people currently take into tertiary education and training in the North East and South of Scotland. It also looks at how they move through and around the system once they are in it.
Professor Keep argues that accepting the need for a close match between education and training the skill needs of the Scottish economy does not equate to delivering it. He goes on to identify policy development possibilities for the Scottish Funding Council and its partners.
This study from the CDN Research & Enhancement Centre explores the experiences of a small sample group from both Pathfinder regions. It captures a moment in time when the seven pilot projects were in the development and testing phase.
This report from Evaluation Support Scotland shares what 35 pilot project participants learned about developing new and different approaches to addressing regional skills needs. The report was developed from three discussion sessions that took place between the end of October and mid-December 2024.
This report describes tertiary education and skills provision at a regional level in the North East and South of Scotland in 2020-21. It also looks at the changes that have taken place since 2011-12. It uses university data from the Higher Education Statistics Authority and college data collected by the Scottish Funding Council.
